Featuring an illustrated title page and eleven further plates, all in colour. Collated, complete. Artwork by prominent English wood-engraver John Farleigh, who achieved fame as the illustrator of George Bernard Shaw.
Lovely view into historical horticulture from Sir Sacheverell Sitwell, best known as a baroque-architecture specialist and art and music critic. Chapter titles include "The Jacobean Florist", "The Old English Tulip" and "The Nineteenth Century Florist".
Condition
In publisher's original green cloth binding. With unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart with slight bumping and rubbing and the odd mark. Wrap suffers from moderate chip to tail of spine and a few closed tears to spine head and edges. With significant spotting. Internally, firmly bound. Bright and clean copy with occasional spotting throughout, heavier to the first and last few pages.
