Klara and the Sun is a dystopian science fiction story. Set in the US in an unspecified future, the book is told from the point of view of Klara, a solar-powered Artificial Friend, who is chosen by Josie, a sickly child, to be her companion. It is the eighth novel by Kazuo Ishiguro, a Japanese-born British novelist, screenwriter, musician, and short-story writer.
Ishiguro is one of the most critically acclaimed contemporary fiction authors writing in English, having been awarded several major literary prizes, including the 2017 Nobel Prize in Literature.
