A lovely set of four aquatint and lithography bibliographical catalogues by J.R. Abbey.
The works were first published and printed privately at the Curwen Press in 1957, with these being reprinted volumes, authorized by The Trustees of the late J.R. Abbey.
John Roland Abbey was an English book collector and high sheriff who served two years on the Western Front in 1914.
He became the largest English book collector of his time, starting in 1929 by buying books from various private presses, eventually gaining complete collections of books from the Kelmscott, Ashendene and Gwasg Gregynog presses. He eventually came to own over 13,000 books.

In the original cloth bindings. Externally, very smart. Light shelf wear to extremities, most significant to the heads and tails of the spines. Light fading to spines. Odd faint mark to boards and spine of Scenery of Great Britain and Ireland. Marks to rear board and spine of Travel in Aquatint and Lithography Vol I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
