The first edition of Camera in London by esteemed British photographer Bill Brandt, with commentary by Norah Wilson. Part of the Masters of the Camera series, edited by A. Kraszna-Krausz. Published by The Focal Press in 1948.

In the publisher's original paper boards, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Contains all fifty-nine photographs on London and its people. Collated complete.

Recognised as one of the most influential photographers in the twentieth century, Brandt specialised in architecture and landscapes, and this is demonstrated in his this particular book, Brandt's third. It contains beautiful photographs of London's river, homes, people, as well as lit-up scenes at night. Published only three years after the end of World War II, it also contains Brandt's photographs of London during the Blitz.

At the end of the book, Brandt includes technical notes on the photography of each picture, including length of exposure and weather conditions.

Condition

In the publisher's original paper boards, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart, with slight signs of shelf wear. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. Slight fading to the extremities and to the spine. Dust wrapper is generally bright and clean, with black smudge marks, heavier to bottom edge of front wrapper and rear wrapper. Signs of shelf wear to wrapper extremities, heavier to the front joint, and top edge, where there is a very small chip to head of wrapper spine. Offsetting to free end papers, and the odd spot to paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
