A 1936 edition of Lawrence's novel, which was first published in 1920.
This is referred to as the Popular Edition to the colophon, and as the Cheap Edition to the dust wrapper back strip.
In a very scarce charmingly illustrated unclipped publisher's original dust wrapper.
The novel follows a young woman named Alvina whose father buys a theatre. Among the performers he employs is Ciccio, a sensual Italian who immediately captures Alvina’s attention. Fleeing with him to Naples, she leaves her world behind and enters one of sexual awakening and desire.
This was the winner of the 1920 James Tait Black Memorial Prize.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding, with unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, fine. Colour pencil price inscription to front free endpaper. Dust wrapper a touch age toned to back strip with light handling marks to rear wrap. Chipping to back strip tail, with losses to back strip head, and edgewear to front wrap tail. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright.
