In this suspenseful murder mystery, an English policeman returning from night patrol finds a corpse in evening dress locked in the stocks on the village green. He recognises the victim as an unpopular, corrupt and eccentric man whom many people would have a reason to murder.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding, with unclipped dust wrapper. A touch of fading to head of rear board and back strip, otherwise externally bright. Shelf wear to back strip tail. Significant sunning to dust wrapper back strip, with losses and closed tears to back strip head and tail, and closed tears to head of front wrap and tail of rear wrap. Light tide mark to tail of back strip. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with only the odd spot to first and last few leaves.
