In the publisher's original blue cloth, with a colour frontispiece of Bawleys Off the Nore. Contains eighteen other charming colour illustrations, with illustration Deal Lugger-Assistance in the Downs (p.28) missing. Contains all 6 Coastal Craft design plans. Collated complete.
Originally wishing to be a pictorial record of the disappearing sailing boats that were being overtaken by steam-powered ships, Carr wishes to give a swan song to what he believes will be the last sail boats used for commercial use.
Condition
In the publisher's original blue cloth. Externally, smart, with minimal marks. Fading to the boards, stronger to the bottom right edge of front board and extremities of back board. Signs of shelf wear, with bumping to the tail and head of the spine, resulting in a very marginal lift to cloth. Slight offsetting to the end papers, and a library book plate to front free end paper of previous owner. Internally, generally firmly bound, with plate adjoined to p.62 loose. Plate adjoining to p.28 is missing. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the rare odd spot to leaf extremities, heavier to half-title leaf and index leaves.
