What Our Customers Say...
Description
Publishers' Original Binding
The third impression of the Odyssey Press cheap edition of this famously controversial novel.
This edition was authorised by Frieda Lawrence and aimed to provide an unexpurgated version of the novel at a lower price, fulfilling Lawrence's desire to reach a wider audience. It followed the 'Paris Popular Edition' which initially published in 1939 with a print run of 3,000 copies.
In the original wraps. To the rear cover is printed "Not to be Introduced into the British Empire or the U.S.A".
The novel became notorious for its story of the affair between a working-class man and an upper-class woman, its explicit descriptions of sex and its use of then-unprintable profane words.
Condition
In the original wraps. Externally, wraps are sunned, with minor handling marks. Creasing to the spine and slight edge wear. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with a few spots to the endpapers and scattered spotting to the fore edge affecting the occasional page.
