The signed first edition of In Arcadia, a poetic anthology written by British writer and scholar William Macneile Dixon. Published by Blackie and Son Limited in 1933.
In the publisher's original quarter cloth, with paper boards. The poet's signed inscription is on the front free end paper, dated to 1934.
Known for both his poetry and patriotism, Dixon was an eminent scholar of the English language, teaching at both Trinity College, Dublin and at Mason Science College, later Birmingham University. This particular anthology, as well as containing many poems including patriotic verse, Dixon has also written a short play based on the Scottish folk figure Thomas the Rhymer.
Condition
In the publisher's original quarter cloth, with paper boards. Externally, very smart, with clean boards, minimal shelf wear very slight fading to the head and tail of the spine. Dust wrapper is clean with minimal marks. Fading to the wrapper spine and marginal signs of shelf wear, with a small chip to the head and tail of the wrapper spine. End papers are bright and clean, with a small brown mark to top of hinge of front end papers, and very faint spotting towards hinge of rear end papers. Author's signed inscription to front free end paper. Internally, firmly bound, with minor wear to hinge between leaves pp.54-55. Pages are bright and clean.
