The last complete novel by Polish-British author Joseph Conrad, set against Napoleon's rise to power and the French-English rivalry in the Mediterranean. Regarded as one of the greatest writers in the English language, Conrad based many of his stories in nautical settings or crises of human individuality, and his narrative style and anti-heroic characters have influenced numerous authors.
