The signed first edition of the scarce and curious anthology La Sirène Blessée (The Wounded Mermaid), written by esteemed French poet and writer Èmile Ripert. Published by Plon-Nourrit and Co. in 1920.
In the publisher's original paper covers, with the author's signature and inscription on the front free end paper. Contains original advertisements and errata leaves.
A prominent intellectual in early twentieth century France, Èmile Ripert served as the first ever Chair of Provencal Language and Literature at Aix-Marseille university the same year of publishing, and wrote a number of novels and plays, including L'or des Runes the following year. Rather than containing strictly poetry, La Sirène Blessée is a play set on a German submarine, an is adjoined by poems either side of it.
Condition
In the publisher's original paper covers. Externally, mostly smart, with slight fading to the extremities and the small odd spot. Signs of shelf wear, with creasing and splitting to the spine, and the front joint loosening. A small chip to head of spine. End papers are generally bright and clean, with the faint odd spot to the rear free end paper. Internally, leaves pp.1-16 are loosening and errata leaves are loose. Several leaves unopened, including the title leaf. Pages are generally bright and clean, with slight spotting to the extremities of the occasional leaf, heavier to leaf p.201.
