A collection of the essays of Ralph Waldo Emerson, containing both the first and second series of his essays.

The essays include 'History', 'Self-Reliance', 'Friendship', 'Heroism', 'Character', 'Nominalist and Realist', and more, with a total of twenty essays.

Emerson was an American essayist, lecturer, philosopher, minister, abolitionist, and poet who led the Transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century. He was seen as a champion of individualism and critical thinking, as well as a prescient critic of the countervailing pressures of society and conformity. 

In a full blue calf binding with a gilt to fore edge.

Condition

In full calf. Externally, generally smart. Rubbing to boards, joints and extremities. Fading to spine. Odd mark to boards. Offsetting to free endpapers. Marks to endpapers. Internally, mostly firmly bound. First blank is disbound but present. Pages are bright and clean, with some marks to the leaves at the front and rear.
