A classic schoolgirl tale from Angela Brazil, a prolific and important author in the genre. This novel follows the young Lesbia Carrington, widely regarded as a stand-in for the author, and one of a number of characters identified as being used by Brazil to covertly express lesbian themes.
Brazil's books were popular, but seen as disruptive seen as disruptive by some figures in authority during the height of their popularity, with anecdotal cases of them banned, or indeed burned, by headmistresses in British girls' schools.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding, with unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, bright, with back strip lightly age toned, small bump to front board tail, and light shelf wear to back strip tail. Inscription to front free endpaper. Handling marks to dust wrapper, sunning to back strip, losses and closed tears to back strip head, and closed tear to rear wrap head. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
