A delightful children's book written by siblings Charles and Mary Lamb, intended to aid accessibility to such iconic plays.
Mary Lamb was responsible for retelling the comedies and Charles the tragedies in this popular retelling of William Shakespeare's works, intended "for the use of young persons" while retaining as much Shakespearean language as possible.
Illustrated with a coloured frontispiece and eleven coloured plates by a leading figure of the Golden Age of British book illustration, Arthur Rackham. His work is noted for its robust pen and ink drawings, which were combined with the use of watercolour, a technique he developed due to his background as a journalistic illustrator.
