In the publisher's red variant gilt-stamped cloth.
Illustrated with a coloured frontispiece and eleven coloured plates by a leading figure of the Golden Age of British book illustration, Arthur Rackham. His work is noted for its robust pen and ink drawings, which were combined with the use of watercolour, a technique he developed due to his background as a journalistic illustrator.
Collated, complete.
Mary Lamb was responsible for retelling the comedies and Charles the tragedies in this popular retelling of William Shakespeare's works, intended "for the use of young persons" while retaining as much Shakespearean language as possible.
Condition
In the publisher's gilt-stamped cloth. Externally, very smart, with minor fading to the spine and minor shelf wear. Internally, firmly bound. With toning to the title page and last page, otherwise bright and generally clean. Ownership ink inscription to front free endpaper.
