Charles Virmaître (1842–1903) was a French writer and journalist known for his irreverent, slang-rich portraits of Belle Époque Paris, including studies of cabarets, criminal argot, and bohemian society.

Condition

In the publisher's original pictorial paper wraps with the original glassine wrap. Externally, smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities, resulting in sight loss to paper at tail of spine. Closed tear to lower edge of front joint. Slight soiling to wraps with the odd spot. Characteristic age toning to wraps. The odd spot to endpapers. Green leather bookplate of Georges Flore and Genevieve Dubois to front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean if typically age toned with the odd spot to first and last few leaves and fore edge.
