A vividly illustrated chronicle of social and political unrest in late-19th-century Paris, pairing satirical text with bold caricatural plates by Choubrac. It captures demonstrations, street agitation, working-class discontent and the city’s volatile popular mood. Henry Buguet (1845-1920) was a journalist and satirist known for caustic studies of Parisian life and manners; Edmond Benjamin contributed additional text in a similar boulevard style. Illustrated throughout by celebrated poster artist and caricaturist Choubrac, a key figure of Parisian fin-de-siècle graphic satire and an early pioneer of the illustrated advertising poster.

In the publisher's original pictorial paper wraps. Externally, generally smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities resulting in the odd small chip, closed tear, and crease to extremities. Typical age toning to wraps, with the odd slight spot and minor handling mark to extremities. Closed tears to spine, with slight loss at head and tail. slight loss to upper fore edge of half-title. with slight loss to upper corners up to page 8. Internally, firmly bound. pages generally bright and clean if typically age toned with one or two spots.
