The very scarce first edition of the work.

In publisher's purple cloth binding.

A series of 27 sermons, by Rev. Charles Kingsley, a broad church priest of the Church of England, a university professor, social reformer, historian, novelist, and poet.

He is particularly associated with Christian socialism, Anti-Catholicism, the working men's college, and forming labour cooperatives, which failed, but encouraged later working reforms.

Condition

In publisher's original binding. Externally, smart. Fading to spine and edges of boards. Light bumping to head and tail of spine, with cloth folding and cracking. Shelf wear to extremities. Blind stamp to front free paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with spotting to the front an rear.
