Norman Macleod (1812-1872) was a prominent Scottish clergyman, editor of Good Words, and Chaplain-in-Ordinary to Queen Victoria. A popular writer and preacher, he travelled widely, and his accessible religious prose found a substantial readership in Britain and abroad.
Condition
In the publisher's original binding. Externally, sound. Damp staining to boards, more so to rear board. The odd minor handling mark. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities resulting in slight loss and fraying to cloth at extremities. Previous owner's faint inscription to front paste down. Hinges cracked, with binding materials partially exposed, slightly loosened but holding. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages slightly cockled. Hinges slightly strained in places. Previous owner's inscription to title page. Slight paper residue to gutter of page 119, likely from a previously tipped in newspaper cutting.
