Illustrated throughout with frontispiece, vignette, and forty-eight plates, with many in-text images. Collated, complete.
The Comic Annual was a humour volume that began publication in 1830 and ran until 1842. A total of eleven volumes were published as no annuals were printed in 1840 or 1841.
Written and edited by Thomas Hood, an English poet, author and humourist who wrote regularly for The London Magazine, Athenaeum, and Punch.
Previous owner's stamp and contemporary ink inscription to title page.
With sixteen pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear.
Condition
In the original quarter crushed morocco. Externally, generally smart with rubbing to leather at extremities and joints. Rubbing to spine head and tail resulting in loss. Discolouration, age toning, and marks to paper-covered boards. Chipping to paper-covered boards. Internally, firmly bound. Front hinge cracked and starting. Pages marginally age toned and spotting, heaviest to the first and last few. Contains sixteen pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. Previous owner's stamp and contemporary ink inscription to title page.
