A wonderful illustrated anonymously produced 19th century sketch book, with the pencil date of 1832 to the pastedowns.
Consisting of thirty-one pencil illustrations of churches, villages, hills, ruins and lakes, some of which feature such captions as 'Patterdale Church', and 'Bridge over the Tee'.
Featuring charming depictions of 1830s England.
In an attractive contemporary calf backed binding.
With the bookplate of James S. Dearden to the front pastedown. He was a Ruskin enthusiast credited with launching the Ruskin revival, and with advising three generations of Ruskin scholars.
Condition
In the publisher's original calf backed paper covered boards. Light rubbing to back strip head and tail, otherwise externally excellent. Bookplate to front pastedown, with pencil inscriptions to pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
