First published in 1779, this is a collection of sermons by a popular preacher and member of the colonial Philadelphia ruling class, whose views were at odds with the authors of the Declaration of Independence, resulting in his exile to England, where he worked as 'Chaplain to the Asylum for Female Orphans, in the Parish of Lambeth'.

Bookplates to pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Blind stamps to title pages, with ink library markings to title page versos. Pages otherwise clean and bright.
