Comprising 633 'Aphorisms on Man' written by prominent Swiss poet, philosopher and theologian, Johann Kaspar Lavater, who is also seen as the founder of physiognomy.
From the library of Jarrard Edward Strickland (1781-1844), bearing his engraved frontispiece to the front paste down.
Condition
In full calf binding. Externally, with rubbing to the extremities, notably to the joints. A few marks to the boards. Bookplate of Jarrard Edw. Strickland to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with toning and spotting to the endpapers. Worming to the first and last few leaves. Ownership inscription to the front free endpaper.
